When Uptime is Critical

The productivity of our customers is extremely important to each one of us here at Industrial Compressor Solutions. We make it our business to do everything in our power to prevent downtime to the companies we service. A short while ago this dedication was put to the test when a brand new compressor went down over the weekend, threatening to put a halt to Monday’s performance.

One of our valued customers is a large international brake company with plants all over the world. Less than three days after installation of a brand new compressor at their Columbia, South Carolina plant, the motor seized due to a manufacturer defect. It just so happened to be a weekend morning when the $100k piece of shiny equipment failed.

Needless to say, the manufacturer was on the chopping block, we were on the chopping block, and so was anyone who even recommended us. The 350HP motor was gone and our customers did not have a back up. On top of that, the manufacturer did not have any help to offer and was quick to revert the blame back to us. We knew that our customer was not at fault and it is our policy to cover what the manufacturer does not, including freight, labor, and mileage, so that our customers are never left in the cold.

They have trusted us, and we are not going to let them down.

ICS does not operate with a dedicated on-call technician. When crisis happens, it’s all hands on deck. Even though it was a weekend, we immediately got our team out there. Our technicians installed a new air compressor and dryer adjacent to the broken one. The new equipment was a rental, costing our company thousands of dollars a week, not including installation and removal. But our biggest goal was to get our customers up and running as soon as possible, to avoid production loss at any cost. We succeeded in this task: the motor went down on Saturday and we had them back up again by Sunday.

Once the rental was in place we were able to be less reactive and figure out what went wrong. We pulled the seized motor out and brought it back to our shop to discover that there was a manufacturer error inside the end bell.

Thanks to the brilliant efforts of five ICS technicians, not only were we able to get them up and running with piping and wiring a whole new set of equipment, but we were also able to get services done on their four additional compressors!

Maintenance Manager, Jim Dunn said “It took them a couple of weeks or more to get a new motor in from the manufacturer. Once they got it in there, we have been Cadillac-ing ever since. I have been very pleased with their responsiveness and the guys they have working for them are very knowledgeable.”

Plant Engineer, Rick Suarez added “They do what they say and they stand behind anything that they do. They got us running again without us even having to say anything. They foot the bill and didn’t ask us to pay for it. They did a really good job. Ever since we started using them, we don’t have any problems with our compressors. They’ve never let me down and I don’t think that they will.”

Integrity and Dedication are two of our core values and this is just one example of many of how we strive to deliver on what we believe in.
